Elly Towns, Design Engineer, began her career with Lee C. Moore in January 2012 and earned her Professional Engineer designation in May 2016. As a design engineer, Towns often takes a project from beginning to deployment—from calculations and modeling software to build models, analysis, and ultimately, its full-function in the field.
In high school, Towns’ mother introduced her to the Francis Tuttle Pre-Engineering Academy—which is designed to prepare students for success in colleges of engineering. This program helped to prepare Towns for her education in Civil Engineering at Oklahoma State University.
After graduating from college, Towns moved to the Tulsa area and began her career with Lee C. Moore. “I enjoy being part of a smaller company. I like that I know my CEO (Tom Wingerter) and that he is approachable and transparent. I like that each day is different and I get to do a variety of things. I also enjoy the people that I work with and have been able to develop good relationships with them.” says, Towns.
Towns is an active member of the Society of Women Engineers and is currently serving as the Outreach Chair. In this capacity, one project she is involved with is hosting a “Girls Night” at Emerson Elementary—a school serving under-privileged children in North Tulsa. “It’s an opportunity to expose these girls to STEM activities. If it impacts even one girl to see a future in the STEM field, it’s worth it.”
When Towns is not working, she enjoys spending time outdoors with family, friends and her dog. She particularly enjoys hiking in the Colorado mountains.
